People living with complex mental illness and addictions have access to a new purpose-built treatment centre with a model of care that is innovative and progressive – the first of its kind in North America. The Red Fish Healing Centre for Mental Health and Addiction is a 105-bed centre that provides several levels of care within the same facility to help people progress to their recovery and eventually reintegrate into their home communities

A two-and-a-half metre traditional Coast Salish welcome figure was unveiled today at Douglas College’s Coquitlam Campus. Titled “Salmon Woman Welcomes Salmon Home. "The figure was commissioned last year in commemoration of the College’s 50th anniversary and in recognition of the College’s location on traditional Coast Salish territories – in particular the Kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) First Nation.

August 11, 2021 — The first house post to be erected in the ancestral homeland of kʷikʷəƛ̓əm First Nation in 120 years was unveiled today at the Red Fish Healing Centre for Mental Health and Addiction (θəqiʔ ɫəwʔənəq leləm) at səmiq̓ʷəʔelə/Riverview.

May 27, 2021 — A 600-year old cedar tree carved by Kwantlen First Nation artist Brandon Gabriel into a house post called “The Spirit of Kwikwetlem" tells the history of the strong spirit and resilience of the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) people and the sockeye salmon from which the Nation carries their name.

March 10, 2021 - The Riverview Lands have been renamed səmiq̓wəʔelə (pronounced Suh-MEE-kwuh-EL-uh), in recognition and respect of the Kwikwetlem First Nation’s (kʷikʷəƛ̓əm) historical and cultural ties to its ancestral land.

February 12, 2019 — Kwikwetlem First Nation hosted an historic canoe dedication ceremony on the Riverview Lands where, in partnership with the Province of BC, BC Housing, and the City of Coquitlam, they dedicated a canoe to the new Healing Spirit House at Riverview, set to open in March.

December 4, 2018 – ​KFN Enterprises LP (KFNE) announced today that its Utility Boxes Wrap project at the Riverview Lands is complete. Each of the 11 utility boxes which are part of a new 25-kilometre electrical distribution system is wrapped in a unique Coast Salish design.
