Stewardship

The Stewardship Department cares for, and protects, the lands, waters and resources within the Nation’s traditional territory. At the core of all our Stewardship work is our belief that the Coquitlam Watershed, the ancestral home of our people, is protected for future generations. For more than two decades, the Nation has been actively involved in stewardship projects aimed at restoring the sockeye salmon to the Coquitlam Watershed. The spirit of the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm People is tied to the destiny of these fish, whose name kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (which means “Red Fish Up the River”) we carry.
