səmiq̓ʷəʔelə (Riverview)

səmiq̓wəʔelə/Riverview resides at the heart of kʷikʷəƛ̓əm First Nation’s ancestral territory. Our people have close and longstanding ties to these lands which, prior to settler arrival, provided our community with a place of safety during times of high water, a space for spirit, cultural and ceremonial life, and a valued location for us to harvest and hunt for food and gather medicine. Today, we are reconnecting with these lands, now renamed səmiq̓wəʔelə, “Place of the Great Blue Heron,” in recognition of our ties to these lands.
